We’ve selected six foods that, if you include them regularly in your daily menu, will keep you healthy for longer.

There’s no doubt that nutritionists place almost too much importance on certain foods. They claim they hold the secret to longevity – but of course, this is not true. Foods alone cannot, for example, stop an aggressive tumor from progressing, or unblock arteries in someone close to a heart attack overnight.

However, we know the facts. For example, eating vitamin-rich fruit and vegetables and a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids is good for long-term health. In fact, this is the key word! Eating a kilo of broccoli as part of a campaign has never changed anyone’s life.

But if you regularly include the foods listed below in your diet, you can do a lot to maintain your well-being and health.

Whether you eat dry beans or fresh green beans, they are good for the heart, as they contain cholesterol-lowering fibre, potassium, and B vitamins. It also has plenty of low-fat protein.

Does it really work wonders? Probably so, provided you can digest it without any particular discomfort.


This plant is indeed considered a medicine. Research shows it contains anti-cancer substances and even reduces the risk of stomach ulcers, heart disease, and osteoporosis. Its miraculous effects are probably due to the fact that it contains four times more vitamin C, five times more calcium, and twice as much iron as its close relative, cauliflower. It also contains folic acid, magnesium, vision-enhancing vitamin A, and blood-clotting vitamin K.

Alternatives: white and red cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage

Does it really work wonders? Definitely. Eat as much as you can!

It contains five times more antioxidants than broccoli. Scientific research already shows that the healing substances in this fruit act like probiotics: they help prevent ulcers, kidney stones and tooth decay. They can also reduce the risk of heart attack and cancer.

Blueberries have been shown to be the best cure for urinary tract infections, especially cystitis, but they are also effective in preventing them. It is mainly available in the canned form or as juice.


It can be an excellent aid in the prevention of heart disease, as it contains antioxidants and water-soluble fibres that reduce cholesterol levels. If you eat oats for breakfast, you won’t feel hungry again for a long time because they stabilize blood sugar levels. It can therefore also play a role in preventing diabetes. It also contains selenium, which is known as an anti-cancer mineral.

Alternatives: wheat germ, rye, barley, millet, brown rice, buckwheat

It has amazing properties: it contains antioxidants, vitamins, iron, coenzyme Q10, and very few calories. It is an effective preventative against arthritis, osteoporosis and various heart diseases.

Alternatives: kale, Swiss chard and all green leafy vegetables

It’s high in protein and even lower in fat than chicken. It also contains B vitamins, zinc, selenium and iron.

Alternatives: chicken meat

If you’re a carnivore, it’s definitely a better choice than pork. Eat it without the skin!
