Aaron Carter, brother of Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, has died aged 34.
According to TMZ, Carter was found dead in his bathroom in Lancaster, California on Saturday morning. Representatives for his team confirmed his death.
TMZ also reported that the Los Angeles County Police Department arrived on the scene around 11:00 am local time (18:00 GMT) after receiving a report of a drowning.
Carter began his career at the age of 9 as the opening act for the boy band Backstreet Boys on many tours and concerts, and had a successful solo career.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, millions of copies of his four albums were sold.
His second album, Aaron’s Party (Come Get It), was released in 2000 and went triple platinum.
As he got older, Carter faced a number of difficulties, went to rehab several times, and in 2013 was declared bankrupt due to millions of dollars in debt.
He had several run-ins with authorities over drug possession and reckless driving.
Earlier this year, he said he no longer wanted to be seen as a “train wreck”.
“If somebody wants to call me a train wreck, well, I was a train that was wrecked multiple times and derailed because of a lot of different things,” the rapper said.
Aaron’s son Prince was born in 2021, and earlier this year he checked himself into rehab to get custody of the boy.
